PDF to Word Converter
Our PDF to Word converter pulls the readable text out of a PDF and writes it into a real Microsoft Word .docx file you can edit, search, and reformat. Paragraphs and simple tables are detected automatically; the result opens cleanly in Word, Google Docs, and LibreOffice.
Heads up: this is a text-and-structure conversion
A "real" PDF to Word tool is a hugely expensive engineering problem — full layout reconstruction with fonts, images, columns, and styled headers intact is what commercial desktop publishers spend millions of dollars on. This tool takes the honest, pragmatic path: it reads the PDF's existing text layer, detects paragraphs and simple tables, and writes a Word document with the content in reading order.
That means:
- Paragraphs are preserved as separate paragraphs in the .docx.
- Simple tables (rows with consistent tab or multi-space columns) become real Word tables with borders.
- Fonts, images, columns, headers/footers, and exact placement are not preserved. Complex financial reports, multi-column newsletters, and styled marketing pages will need a cleanup pass in Word after conversion.
If your PDF is mostly paragraphs and simple tables, you'll get a document you can edit immediately. If it's a complex visual layout, treat the .docx as a starting point and clean it up in Word.
How to Use the PDF to Word Tool
1. Upload Your PDF
- Drag a
.pdffile onto the drop zone, or click to browse. - Files up to 10MB are supported.

.docxusing phpoffice/phpword. - After a few seconds you'll see a summary with pages, paragraphs, and tables count.

- Open it in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, or any other editor that supports the OOXML
.docxformat.

Key Features
Conversion Pipeline
- Uses smalot/pdfparser to extract text from the PDF's real text layer
- Uses phpoffice/phpword to write a standards-compliant
.docx(Word 2007+ format) - Heuristic table detector: tab-separated or multi-space-separated rows become a real Word table
- Per-page processing so multi-page documents stay in reading order
- Self-describing footer: every output
.docxincludes a one-line note that it was generated by this tool
Privacy and Safety
- The PDF is uploaded to the server, processed in a temp directory, and the temp files are deleted as soon as the response is streamed back to your browser
- Nothing about the file is logged
- 10MB size cap and 30 requests per minute per IP rate limit to keep the queue fair
Use Cases
1. Editing a PDF You Received
- Someone sent you a PDF contract or report and you need to revise it
- Convert it to a
.docx, edit the text, then save or re-export as PDF
2. Repurposing Content
- Pull a chapter or article out of a PDF and put it in a Word document you can reformat
- Strip the layout to focus on the words
3. Collaboration
- Most collaborative editors (Google Docs, Word Online, Notion) accept
.docxbut not.pdfedits - A
.docxis much easier to comment on, redline, and co-author than a PDF
Technical Features
- Server-Side Processing: The PDF is parsed on the server with a battle-tested pure-PHP parser — no headless browser, no OCR for text-layer PDFs.
- Multi-Page Support: Pages are processed in order, and a page break naturally falls out as the parser walks the document.
- Heuristic Tables: Rows that share a column count and use tabs or 2+ spaces as separators become a Word table.
- Self-Describing Output: Every
.docxincludes a small italic footer at the end so the recipient knows where the document came from. - Streaming Response: The
.docxis streamed directly to the browser, then the temp file is unlinked.

FAQ
Does this work on scanned PDFs?
Only if the PDF already has a text layer. A scanned page that's really just an image, with no OCR text embedded, has no text to extract — this tool reads the existing text layer, it doesn't perform OCR. If you have a scanned PDF, run it through an OCR tool first to create a text layer, then convert it here.
Does it preserve images, fonts, and the original layout?
No. This is a text-and-structure conversion. Fonts, colours, images, columns, and exact placement are not reconstructed. For text-heavy PDFs that's a fast win; for complex financial reports or styled layouts, expect to do some clean-up in Word.
How accurate is the table detection?
It works well on PDFs that were generated from spreadsheets or simple table layouts (the source had real tabs or consistent column alignment). It will not reconstruct complex merged-cell tables, nested headers, or visual-only "tables" that aren't actually separated by whitespace in the underlying text.
Does this work on password-protected PDFs?
No. Remove the password first, then convert.
Is my PDF stored on your server?
No. The file is uploaded to a temp directory, processed, streamed back to your browser, and the temp file is deleted. Nothing is logged.
What's the file size limit?
10MB per file. For larger PDFs, split the file first with the Split PDF tool, then convert each part.
What format is the output?
A standard Word 2007+ .docx (OOXML). It opens in Microsoft Word 2007 and later, Word for Mac, Word Online, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, Apple Pages, and most other modern word processors.
