Understanding DOCX to Text Conversion
What Gets Extracted?
Paragraph text, headings, and table cell contents are extracted in the order they appear in the document. Images, embedded objects, headers/footers, and speaker-note-style content outside the main body are not included.
Why Convert to Plain Text?
Plain text is the most portable format there is — it opens anywhere, searches cleanly, and strips away formatting that can get in the way when you just need the words. It's also far lighter than the original document, which matters when you're processing many files or feeding content into another system.
Legacy .doc vs Modern .docx
Modern .docx files (Office 2007 and later) use a well-documented XML-based format that parses reliably. Legacy .doc files use an older binary format with more limited, best-effort support — for guaranteed accuracy, save the file as .docx first if you have that option.
Remember: this tool extracts text only — if you need the original formatting, layout, and images preserved, use the DOC to PDF converter instead.
