Your estimated body fat percentage and where it falls against the standard essential/athletic/fitness/average/obese bands.

FAQ

Common questions

How accurate is the Navy method?
It's a circumference-based estimate, generally within a few percentage points of more precise methods like DEXA scans or hydrostatic weighing for most people — accurate enough for tracking your own trend over time, not a clinical measurement.
Why does the formula ask for a neck measurement?
The Navy method estimates body fat from the difference between waist (and hip, for women) and neck circumference — neck size correlates with frame size and is used to normalize the waist measurement against it.
Does my measurement data get sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is transmitted, logged, or stored.

Understanding Body Fat Percentage

What is Body Fat Percentage?

Body fat percentage is the proportion of fat in your body compared to your total body weight. It is an important indicator of fitness and health.

How is Body Fat Percentage Calculated?

The U.S. Navy Method uses measurements of height, neck, waist, and hips (for females) to estimate body fat percentage. This method is widely used for its accuracy and simplicity.

Limitations of Body Fat Calculations

While the U.S. Navy Method provides a good estimate, it may not account for all individual differences in body composition. It should be used alongside other assessments for a comprehensive health evaluation.

Remember: Always consult with a healthcare professional for personalized health advice and before making significant changes to your diet or exercise routine.
